In the vibrant town of Farafenni, a remarkable story of resilience, perseverance, and triumph unfolds. After twelve years of unwavering dedication and overcoming countless challenges, the Gaye Njorro Skills Academic has reached a significant milestone. We have been allocated land in Farafenni, a testament to our enduring impact and transformative efforts in skills training and youth empowerment. This achievement marks a new chapter in our journey, filled with hope, potential, and a promise of even greater accomplishments ahead.

For twelve years, Gaye Njorro has been a beacon of hope in Farafenni, facing and surmounting obstacles that have daunted many private training providers. Our commitment to providing high-quality skills training and development programs has remained steadfast, even when the odds were against us. This dedication has set us apart, making us a pillar of strength and inspiration in the Farafenni community.

Throughout these years, we have tirelessly worked to change the narrative around skills training in Farafenni. We have shattered stereotypes, proven the value of vocational education and skills training, and demonstrated that with the right support, Gambian youth and women can achieve remarkable success.

The impact of our program is best measured by the success of our graduates. To date, we have proudly seen over 2000 youth and women complete our programs, each equipped with the skills and confidence to pursue their dreams. One shining example is our graduate, supported by the Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) who now operates a fully-fledged restaurant. Her thriving business stands as a testament to the transformative power of skills training and the opportunities it creates.

Remarkably, 90% of our graduates are gainfully employed, a statistic that speaks volumes about the effectiveness of our programs. Most of the restaurants, salons, and tailoring shops in Farafenni and its surroundings are owned and/or operated by Gaye Njorro alumni, illustrating the significant economic impact these skilled professionals are making in their communities.

The success of Gaye Njorro is also due to our collaboration with various organizations and institutions. We have worked closely with Gamjobs, Ecowas migration, the Ministry of Trade, UNDP, and YEP. These partnerships have been very instrumental in providing resources, support, and opportunities for our trainees, enhancing the overall effectiveness and reach of our programs.

The allocation of land to the Gaye Njorro in Farafenni is a monumental step forward. It signifies recognition and support from the community and local authorities, including the Area Council and councilors like Adama, who supported us when we started. This land will serve as a foundation for expanding our programs, creating more opportunities for youth and women, and further solidifying our presence in the region.

With this land, the Gaye Njorro plans to develop state-of-the-art training facilities, offering an even broader range of courses and resources. This expansion will enable us to reach more young people and women, providing them with the tools they need to succeed in various fields, from culinary arts, carpentry, welding and fabrication, solar energy, construction, digital skills, and beyond.

Fueled by passion, unwavering commitment, and a supportive community, we have proven that positive change is achievable. Our story is an inspiration to all, especially private institutions that only operate in urban centers, and to whoever believes in the potential of youth and women and the importance of education and skills training.

As we embark on this new chapter, Gaye Njorro calls upon the community, stakeholders, partners, and well-wishers to continue supporting our mission. Together, we can build a future where every young person and woman in Farafenni and beyond has access to the skills, training, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Let us celebrate this milestone and the promise it holds. Let us support our youth and women in their pursuit of knowledge, skills, and success. And most importantly, let us believe in the limitless potential of our future leaders.

In the words of Nelson Mandela, “Education is the most powerful weapon that you can use to change the world.” With this new land and continued community support, Gaye Njorro is poised to wield that weapon more effectively than ever before, ensuring a brighter, more prosperous future for all.
