In a refreshing departure from traditional classroom settings, students at Gaye Njorro Skills Academy recently participated in a four-day outdoor learning program that included fun, education, and skill development. The activity took place at Palma Beach supported by The Gambia Tourism board. Gaye Njorro Skills Academy is creating innovative approach to skills training aimed to provide a holistic learning experiences that combined practical skills and recreational activities.
The program was created to give students a distinctive learning environment apart from the conventional classroom, enabling them to participate in hands-on activities, explore their creativity, and gain entrepreneurial skills.
Outdoor Learning: Promoting Environmental Consciousness
The outdoor learning program not only broadened the horizons of the Gaye Njorro Skills Academy students but also engaged them in a range of activities designed to foster a connection with the natural world and educate them about the surroundings in which they live. They conducted various live training session, gathered seashells and other natural materials, and make amazing arts work during their creative arts sessions.

Day 2 Focused on entrepreneurial skills which is important students’ future businesses. Interactive sessions was conducted by the CEO sharing insights into entrepreneurship Students were given the information and resources needed to launch their own businesses.
Football: Promoting Teamwork and Sportsmanship
Football was a well-liked activity during the program, giving students a chance to get fit, improve their ability to operate as a team, and cultivate good sportsmanship. Friendly matches between staff and students created a lively and competitive environment. 
Tailoring & Garment Construction: Honing Practical Skills
The third day was on tailoring as students did tailoring and garment making. Students gained invaluable practical sewing and garment construction skills from the tailoring and garment construction sessions. They practiced making patterns, picked up basic sewing skills, and made simple clothes. The nature of the sessions allowed them to visualize their results of their efforts.
Creative Arts: Unleashing Artistic Expression
Day 4 Students practice their abilities through a creative T-shirt printing. Students could use T-shirt printing as a means of expressing their artistic abilities. They explored various design techniques, brought their ideas to life and generated their own T-shirt patterns, and learnt different printing procedures. This hands on experience not only showcased their artistic flair but also instilled a sense of accomplishment as they proudly displayed their works.
