EU EMPOWERS GAMBIA’S CREATIVE INDUSTRY WITH INNOVATIVE ONLINE STORE

The European Union has been at the forefront of a major project to support local communities’ resilience in the face of climate change and to help the creative sector grow. The project, “Promoting investment in culture, creative arts and sports to enhance resilience in climate change in local communities,” has not only stimulated economic development but has also opened the door to sustainable practices. The project was led by the Gambia Chambers of Commerce and Industries as lead partners, in partnership with strategic partners such as Gaye Njorro foundation and the Gambia Wrestling association.

The project focused on training artisans and crafts people, with the aim of providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the stringent standards of the EU.

The result is a cohort of skilled artisans who can produce high quality products that are in line with EU standards.

The handicraft component of the project was especially important to the success of the project, as it resulted in the development of an online store for creative industry.

This project has resulted in an innovative online store where Gambian artisans can showcase and sell their goods to a global audience, increasing the visibility of their craftsmanship and opening up new opportunities for economic growth in the creative industry.

The EU’s commitment to sustainable practices and the promotion of cultural and creative arts in the context of climate resilience can be seen in this project. The collaboration between GCCI (Gambia Chamber of Industry), Gaye Njorro Foundation, and the Gambia Wrestling Association has not only raised the standard of craftsmanship but has also contributed to the socio-economic growth of local communities.  The online store is a symbol of the EU’s determination to empower communities and promote cultural sustainability. This project is a milestone in the long-standing partnership between the EU and The Gambia and will serve as a model for future projects that combine culture, creativity and climate resilience.
